PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce head noise and to ensure good head characteristics by using Fe of a specified film thickness as a ferromagnetic material constituting an underlayer under a stabilized bias layer which applies a magnetization stabilized bias magnetic field to the magnetoresistance effect film of a magnetoresistance effect element. SOLUTION: A lower gap layer 11 is formed on a lower shield layer 10 and a magnetoresistance effect element is formed at the central part on the lower gap layer. A ferromagnetic underlayer 15 and a hard magnetic layer 16 are successively formed on the lower gap layer 11. The hard magnetic layer 16 constitutes a stabilized bias layer for applying a magnetization stabilized bias magnetic field to the magnetoresistance effect film of the magnetoresistance effect element. An element terminal 17, an upper gap layer 18, an upper shield layer 19, etc., are formed on the hard magnetic layer 16. When the ferromagnetic underlayer 15 is formed of Fe, the magnetic characteristics of the hard magnetic layer 16 are enhanced by adjusting the thickness of the underlayer 15 preferably to 1.3-2.5 nm.
