Separation of a rigid foam core (1b) from metal covering sheets (1a, 1c) comprises heating part of the panel across its whole width and then inserting a heated wedge (6) to begin lifting one of the sheets. Additional separators are then inserted which bend the sheet away from the core. Movement of the panel is continued until the sheet is completely removed without damaging it or the core. An Independent claim is included for a device for carrying out the separation method which comprises a bed with guide rails at the sides, a piston (23) for moving the panel along, a heater (10, 11) and a heated wedge and separators as described above.
