A reduced weight industrial grid, plate, battery incorporating the same, and method of fabricating said plates. The inventive plates incorporate a lightweight expanded metal grid which comprises expanded cut diamonds that are significantly larger than those traditionally utilized in such grids. A fine strand plastic mesh forced into the active material during the pasting process operates to effectively retain the paste in the large diamonds of the grid. The resulting plate and the battery incorporating such plates is lightweight relative to prior art industrial batteries for comparable applications. |
