PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the efficiency of editorial work carried out by means of a video server. SOLUTION: An A/V(audio/video) server makes a VTR(video tape recorder) reproduce subject matter data by queuing up the VTR to a pre-rolling point and, after a preset prescribed period of time has elapsed from the pre-rolling point, starts to record the subject matter data in a HDD(hard disk drive). The recording of the data is started before an IN point is reached after the VTR starts the reproduction and the reproduction output of the VTR is stabilized. Thereafter, the A/V server stops the data recording when a preset prescribed period of time has elapsed after the OUT point of the data is reached and stops the data reproduction by means of the VTR before the data reach a post-rolling point. When the A/V sever again performs access to the vicinity of the same subject matter data as those recorded on the VTR, the server does not perform access to the VTR, but to the data recorded in the HDD.
