PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make greatly reducible a position error of a head simply at a low cost and make settable the head to a target position with high accuracy. SOLUTION: The apparatus is provided with a disk 1a for recording information, a head 3 for writing/reading information to the disk 1a, an arm 6a having the head 3 fixed to its leading end, a first positioning mechanism 7a for positioning the head 3 at a root of the arm 6a, a second positioning mechanism 4a for positioning the head 3 in the vicinity of the head 3 of the arm 6a, a guide arm 9a having a sensor 8a loaded for measuring a displacement of the arm 6a and feeding back the displacement to the first positioning mechanism 7a, and a guide arm-positioning means 11a for positioning the guide arm 9a. The second positioning mechanism 4a is controlled on the basis of an output from the sensor 8a.
