The invention relates to a method for neutralizing residual oxygenated water in bleaching baths. The oxidizing agent is neutralized at the end of the bleaching process and/or at the beginning of the dyeing process. Neutralization occurs by introducing bifunctional organic compounds comprising at least one aldehyde function, e.g. glyoxylic acid, and/or glyoxal into the dyeing bath. The composition which is used to neutralize the oxidizing agent can also advantageously comprise an acid compound, e.g. diphosphonic hydroxyethane acid.
