The transport unit (13) has two parallel circular conveyors (16) passing through the journal cutting unit, which contains two carriages (21) movable in opposite directions transverse to the workpiece feed axis to position the milling units (26) on each side of the transport unit. The movable carriers for the splinter prevention arrangement consist of two movable stands, each directly connected to one milling unit via a bearer arm.
