PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bar code reading method capable of easily recognizing the information of a bar code system without selecting the direction of the bar code system. SOLUTION: In the bar code system in which three reference points are provided at prescribed intervals at orthogonal positions and the information area of 4 bits extending orthogonally is provided at a position sandwiching these reference points, the information of the bar code system is fetched as a binary signal by a CCD camera 12, the areas and centroid positions of respective detected images are calculated from the binary signal and three reference points are detected out of these images. Further, an information area to detect a bar code regardless of the attitude of the car code system is fixedly located from a line segment extended from an intermediate position between two reference points at the most separated positions to the remaining reference point and a line segment orthogonal to this line segment. Consequently, these are merits that not only the presence/absence of the bar code in the information area can be surely detected regardless of the direction of the bar code system but also the information area to detect the bar code can be located and that the information of the bar code system can be easily identified. |
