PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately estimate a character size in an image. SOLUTION: A run extracting part 3 extracts a run in the main scanning direction of image data in a source image memory 2. A connection rectangle extracting part 4 extracts a connection rectangle while using the extracted run and a frequency counting part 5 counts frequency concerning the longitudinal size of the extracted rectangle. A peak detecting part 6 detects a point, where the sign of the derivative is changed, from the smaller longitudinal size on a frequency distribution and with this point as a peak, a character size output part 7 outputs the peak as a character size. |
