<p>A method and apparatus for providing information relating to the appearance of a first coloured article falling in the family of the type described to enable a second coloured article from the family to be selected or identified which can be related in a predetermined way to the first comprising the steps of: scanning the first article to establish colour and light information and thereafter to provide an output in the form of derived information giving at least one of the parameters defining hue, tone and light intensity; relating the derived information to established parameter or parameters located in one or more ranges of such parameters to identify the required parameter or parameters of the second article either by direct correspondence or by way of a predetermined range of such parameters such as provided by a colour circle or a range of colours in the visible light spectrum; the relationship between the colour/light information of the second article relative to the first being one being either identity, partial identity or a relationship such as complementary or contrasting colour.</p> |
