Three-band phosphor, from scrap discharge lamps, is recycled by oxidative mineral acid leaching for impurity removal and carbonate leaching for selective yttrium-europium oxide dissolution

A three-band phosphor recycling process, comprises oxidative mineral acid leaching for halophosphate and impurity removal and selectively dissolving yttrium/europium oxide with carbonate solution. Recycling of three-band phosphors comprises low temperature oxidative leaching with mineral acid in a closed circuit to remove halophosphates and impurities, high temperature leaching with carbonate solution to dissolve yttrium/europium oxide optionally in a closed circuit, precipitating as the carbonate or salt of a precipitating agent, calcining and firing to obtain a reusable phosphor.
