A variable venturi type carburetor for spark ignition internal combustion engine which has a variable fuel metering device comprising a swingable jet needle and a needle jet and prevents a variation in fuel flow rate between carburetors from occurring in low load areas due to a variation in relative positions of the jet needle and the needle jet in the direction that the jet needle and cell of them are swung, wherein the shape of the jet needle (1) portion stored in a metering part (4) of the needle jet (3) in low load areas is formed of an upstream side taper part (6) which is positioned on the upstream side of a fuel flow, a maximum diameter part (7) which is positioned on the downstream side of the upstream side taper part (6) and communicates with that taper part, and a downstream side small diameter part (8) which is positioned on the downstream side of the maximum diameter part (7) and communicates with that diameter part.
