PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable an image pickup device to pickup moving images and still images with high image qualities. SOLUTION: An image pickup device is provided with an image pickup element 11 having filters of a 2×4 checkerwise arrangement, a motion discriminating means 13 which discriminates the presence/absence of the motions of images at every field, and a camera signal processing section 12 which can, at the time of picking up a still image, convert the output signal of the element 11 obtained by making independent readout into the signal format for recording still images, such as the YUV, RGB, etc., and, at the time of picking up moving images, mix the signals of vertically adjacent two pixels, and convert the signals obtained by performing interlace readout which is thinned at every four pixels into television signals of the NTSC format, etc., and, in addition, can switch signal processing between in-field processing and inter-field signal processing.
