The invention relates to the use of N-substituted heterocyclylalkylamines of general formula (I), wherein A represents a single bond or alkanediyl, R<1> represents optionally substituted alkyl, R<2> represents hydrogen, amino or optionally substituted alkyl, alkoxy, alkylthio, alkylamino or dialkylamino, respectively, Y represents cyano or nitro and Z represents optionally substituted heterocyclyl, as herbicides. The invention also relates to novel N-substituted thienylalkylamines and to methods for producing the same.
