PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording method capable of easily forming the recording magnetic zone of an optimal rectangular shape for superhigh-density recording. SOLUTION: A laser light is converged by a group of two lenses 6 and projected while a magneto-optical recording medium 50 is rotated at a desired rotational speed, and the thermal center (high temperature area) of a thermal spot generated based on the light intensity distribution of a laser light is formed outside an optical spot. A magnetic field generation source 3 having a narrow field generation portion in a track direction is disposed so as to be located in the thermal center outside the optical spot, and a narrow recording magnetic field is applied to the high temperature area. Thus, in the track direction, a narrow recording magnetic zone is formed in the high temperature area, and its shape becomes rectangular. Since no interference occurs in rectangular recording magnetic zones adjacent to each other in the track direction even when a gap therebetween is narrowed, high-density recording is carried out. |
