PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the leaked light through a gap by cutting external light and to improve the contrast. SOLUTION: This display device is a FED 1 in which a cathode substrate 4 having a field emission device 8 formed on the inner face of the substrate and an anode substrate 3 having an anode 5 with a phosphor layer 7 formed through an anode conductor 6 on the inner face are disposed at a specified distance to constitute a vacuum housing 2. A specified gap S is formed between anodes 5 adjacent to each other on the anode substrate 3, and an external light cutting face 14 treated into a black color to cut the external light transmitting through the gap S is formed on the back face of the cathode substrate 4.
