PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for the evaluation of tea leaves, in which not only the absolute grading but also the relative grading of the tea leaves are realized by a simple data processing operation. SOLUTION: After the absolute grading of a tea leaf on the basis of an instrumental analysis or a sensory inspection, its grading data are feteched, grading values in an arbitrary period are grouped, and the tea leaf is relatively graded. That is to say, the grade as the absolute grading of the tea leaf is given to the tea leaf, and the grade is converted into the relative grading of the tea leaf. As a result, a grading treatment of high reliability in a specific period can be realized.
