PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a configuration method and device for automatically setting the configuration (environment setting) of computer peripheral equipment for processing a document to a proper value for maximizing the capability of the peripheral equipment. SOLUTION: This method comprises a step E1 for temporarily storing the instruction by the driver of computer peripheral equipment, a step E3 for analyzing the contents of a computer document from the stored instruction, a step E8 for selecting the proper configuration of the computer peripheral equipment according to the contents of the document, and a step E9 for registering the selected configuration in a configuration storing means related with the driver.
