PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight for a liquid crystal display device with improved incident efficiency on a light transmission plate without increasing its thickness and without drastically changing the method for its manufacturing. SOLUTION: The backlight is provided, on the inside wall-surface of the reflector 10 nearly composed of planes, with a first plane part 31 which is parallel with an end face 20 of a light transmission plate 2, a second plane part 32 which constitutes the upper surface side of a reflector and is parallel with the surface of the light transmission plate and a third plane part 33 at the lower surface side of the reflector. The inside surface of a corner part to which the first and the second plane parts are connected and the inside surface of a corner part where the first and the third plane parts are connected are formed as curved surfaces having their centers of curvature inside the reflector. |
