The switching device includes a control circuit (2,4,6,8,9,10) with an input unit (2,4,6) for inputting user settings, and a load circuit (12,14) with a device for providing different switching pulses. An electromechanical coupler (8,10,11,12) generates linear movement by stepper motor provided with two gearwheels. The input unit receives signals regarding status of load circuit, battery and/or other vehicle conditions.
