A method for cleaning reels (2), involving the removal of residual fibres from textile materials which are wound around said reels, comprising a feed for said reels (2) in a cleaning station (5), the cleaning of said reels in the cleaning station with the aid of at least one liquid jet (6) which is directed onto the reels and which is of a sufficiently high pressure that it can cut away the residual fibres which are borne by the reels, the cleaned reels exit from the cleaning station, whereupon they are continuously conveyed in a direction of conveyance, the reels pass through at least one fluid jet, in addition to a free gravitationally induced fall of the cut residual fibres into a collecting means (8).
