METHOD FOR EXTRACTING FINGERPRINT FEATURES

PURPOSE: A method for extracting a characteristic of a fingerprint is provided to extract the characteristic of the fingerprint efficiently by finding a ridge direction of the fingerprint. CONSTITUTION: A fingerprint image input device scans a fingerprint, and generates a digital fingerprint image(step1). The fingerprint image input device divides the digital fingerprint image into sub regions, and decides a direction of the fingerprint of each sub region(step2). A main control part calculates a fingerprint quality(step3), and separates a fingerprint region and a surrounding region(step4). The main control part digitizes the fingerprint image on the basis of the direction of the fingerprint and the fingerprint quality(step6), and performs a smoothness of the fingerprint image in order to clean the fingerprint(step7). The main control part extracts a frame line of the fingerprint(step8), and extracts a characteristic point from the frame line(step9), and calculates a characteristic quantity of the characteristic point(step12).
