PURPOSE: An SDRAM(synchronous dynamic random access memory) is provided to extend the usage range of a product by programming a storage device with option of 2-bank or 4-bank. CONSTITUTION: An input port is composed of an address buffer and receives an external signal used for selecting a cell at a steady state. A mode register is connected to the output of an input unit. A mode register control unit is connected to the mode register and controls a turn-on and turn-off operation. An operational mode memory unit includes an initializing unit connected to the mode register for pre-charging. The operation mode memory unit latches the output signal of the input port, in responds to an operational mode signal. A bank control unit generates at least one signal for selecting at least one bank by using an output signal of the operational mode memory unit.
