The cutter consists of a shaft with a first section (2). The first section has two parallel flats (3) on which it can be clamped in a tool holder, and two end sections (4,5) of reduced diameter. The ends of the sections are shaped to form support and locating surfaces (6,6') for identical cutter bits (7,7') which can be turned round and can be replaced when worn. The two sets of support faces for the cutter bits are offset by 180 deg. from one another so that they face in opposite directions.
