PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically perform gradation coating having an optional pitch with one kind of a roll by bringing a coating roll having fine projecting and recessed parts uniformly formed on the surface of an elastic layer into pressurized contact with the surface of a ceramic based plate to coat while changing the pressing force in the thickness direction of the ceramic based plate. SOLUTION: The coating roll 1 has the fine projecting and recessed parts uniformly formed on the surface of the surface elastic layer and a coating material 5 is supplied to a coating material tank 4 through a coating material supply roll 3. Each of the rolls 1, 3 is supported by a vertically displaceable base frame 6 and the base frame 6 is vertically displaceable by an air cylinder device 7. In the coating of the ceramic based plate 2, the coating roll 1 is rotated, the coating material 5 is supplied from the coating material tank 4 and the coating roll 1 is transferred while being in contact with the surface of the ceramic based plate 2. At this time, the coating is performed by driving the air cylinder device 7 connecting to the base frame 6 to change the pressing force of the coating roll 1 to the ceramic based plate 2.
