PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the reliability of the operation of a driving device, simplify the structures of parts and lower cost by preventing the deformation of the driving shaft of the driving device upon attachment of a spring for urging a metal release-fitting of a brake release device to be separated from a lever in the brake release device of a washing machine for releasing the brake force of a brake mechanism part provided in a support shaft for supporting a washing and dehydrating drum. SOLUTION: A metal release-fitting 33 is allowed to abut on a lever 20 protruding from a brake mechanism part to release a brake force by a driving device 25 having a driving shaft 26 engaging with one end of the release fitting 33 upon release of brake so that a slide part 34 formed in the other end of the release fitting 33 is slidingly held by a holding member 35. The driving shaft 26 of the driving device 25 is inserted into the inside diameter part 37 of a spring 36 for urging the release fitting 33 to be separated from the lever 20, one end of the spring 36 is allowed to abut on the release fitting 33 and the other end is allowed to abut on the driving device 25 and held.
