PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make wrinkle patterns called buckling, mat wrinkles or crape wrinkles fine and inconspicuous when generated due to a yield phenomenon of steel material in uncoiling the steel strip in a continuous pickling line of a hot rolled strip. SOLUTION: A small diameter pressure roller 8 having a diameter of <=120 mm is brought, through a back up roll 9, in contact with the outer peripheral face 2, 3 of a steel strip coil 1 mounted to a pay off reel 6, and the pressure roll 8, while bending/uncoiling the steel strip 1, is turned taking the opposite side to the uncoiling direction as a support point and following the coil outer peripheral face of the steel strip coil 1 reducing its diameter in uncoiling. By this method, wrinkle patterns are made fine and inconspicuous, and the surface quality after painting can be secured.
