摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal oriented film composition which shortens the time required for preparing a liquid crystal display device and shows good display properties and a high contrast ratio in a transverse electric field liquid crystal display device, a liquid crystal-holding base plate and a liquid crystal display device. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal oriented film composition comprises a polyimide precursor obtained by allowing a diamine component to react with an acid dianhydride component wherein an aliphatic tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride and/or alicyclic tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride accounts for from 30 to 99 mol % of the total molar of the acid dianhydride component. A liquid crystal- holding base plate is prepared by applying the obtained polyimide precursor to a plate, drying it and subjecting it to a dehydration ring closure to form a polyimide film. A liquid crystal display device has a series of electrodes which consist of the liquid crystal-holding base plate and apply an electric field roughly parallel to the substrate surface to a liquid crystal layer, and a liquid crystal oriented film formed from the liquid crystal oriented film composition.
