PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound comprising a specific morphan derivative and useful as an activation modifier of glycine receptor. SOLUTION: This compound is represented by formula I [R1 is H, a (substituted)lower alkyl or the like; and R2 is H, a (substituted)lower alkyl or a (substituted)alkenyl], e.g. 2-methyl-2-azabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane. The compound of formula I can be obtained by method, etc., reacting 2-azabicyclo[3.3.1]-nonane of formula II with formalin, etc., in a polar solvent such as methanol. The compound of formula I can be used as medicines in the forms of various agents by formulating it with a convention vehicle. The dose of the compound is 0.1-1,000 mg/kg. The compound is extremely useful as a therapeutic medicine for various nervous diseases and a central nervous system acting medicine such as anesthetic medicine or antitussive medicine and extremely useful also as pharmacological tool for carrying out functional analysis of glycine receptor.
