PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary shaft coupling which can stabilize the operation at the driven side by suppressing the transmission of the vibration from a motor side to the driven side effectively, and to provide an image reading device which can read the image in a good condition by applying such a rotary shaft coupling to the driving system of a carriage. SOLUTION: This rotary shaft coupling is composed by arranging an input side point 2 to receive the output shaft at the driving side; an output side joint 3 to receive a driven shaft 7b; and an elastic body layer 4 provided between the joints 2 and 3; coaxially, and a inertial body 5 with a mass to expedite the twisting load in the drive rotation direction of the elastic body layer 4 in the rotating time is installed to the elastic body layer 4. And the rotary shaft coupling 1 is assembled in the driving mechanism of a carriage furnished with the scanning module of this image reading device.
