PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject composite where silica and a polymer are bound to each other without separating from each other by reacting the polymer having specific polar group and benzene ring with the silica in a solution. SOLUTION: This composite is obtained by reacting (A) a polymer having benzen ring and polar group containing a heteroatom with (B) silica in (C) a solvent. The component A is e.g. (i) a diene-based rubber with polar group such as a copolymer of a vinyl monomer having a polar group containing a heteroatom, congugated diene and aromatic vinyl compound, (ii) a polar group- containing diene-based rubber obtained by reacting a modifier with a copolymer, i.e., a copolymer of a conjugated diene and aromatic vinyl compound, having active metal bound in the molecule to introduce the heteroatom-containing polar group into the copolymer. The component B is e.g. wet, dry, colloidal, surface-treated silica.
