PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vertical rotary valve easy to discharge from and hard to fix to a powder hopper on which it is mounted, while being kept air-tight. SOLUTION: In this rotary valve, a cylindrical container 1 is located between a discharge port and a carrying passage of a hopper, a rotating shaft 6 having an independent driving source is arranged on its center axis, an inlet rotary valve 2 and an outlet rotary valve 3 are fixed each to the rotating shaft 6 so as to close an inlet opening and an outlet opening of the container 1, at least one supply port 2A and one exhaust port 3A are provided at mutually different portions in the rotating direction of the inlet rotary valve 2 and the outlet rotary valve 3 and a proper number of division chambers 4 are formed between the inlet rotary valve 2 and the outlet rotary valve 3 in the container. In this case, an air reservoir chamber 5 is provided at the side of the division chamber of the inlet rotary valve 2 and a jet hole 2B directed to the discharge port 3A is arranged at an adequate portion of the inlet rotary valve 2 to the discharge port 3A of the outlet rotary valve 3, whereby the jet hole 2B is communicated with the air reservoir chamber 5 to facilitate the separation and discharge of powder from the division chambers 4 and prevent the entry of the powder into a space between the inlet rotary valve 2 and a bearing portion.
