PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a lateral type agitating mixer with a discharge valve locking mechanism in which a discharge valve is not opened even when the thrust force of a discharge valve opening and closing device is small. SOLUTION: In the lateral agitating mixer, in which a throw-in hole is formed on a ceiling on one end of a casing 1, a discharge outlet is formed on a bottom face on the other end, a rotating shaft with an agitating paddle is disposed rotatably in the casing 1, and a discharge valve 4 rotated by a discharge valve opening and closing device 2 and opening and closing the discharge outlet 12 from the lower face of the discharge outlet 12, a lock member 9 and one end of an arm 11 constituting a lever with a shaft 10 as a support are set rotatably on a piston rod 8 of a lock member rotating device 7, and the bottom face of the discharge valve 4 is pressed by the rotation of the lock member 9 to the side of the discharge valve 4 to lock the discharge valve 4 and then separated from the discharge valve 4 to release the locking of the discharge valve 4.
