PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve power consumption performance. SOLUTION: An electromagnetic valve system for an internal combustion engine is composed of an electromagnet 10 and a magnetic body. It also has an armature, which is connected to an intake valve and reciprocated between a position contact with a yoke 11 and a position separated from the yoke 11 due to magnetizing and demagnetizing of the electromagnet 10, for opening and closing the intake valve. S1 denotes a contact area of the armature 5 making contact with an outer yoke 13. S2 denotes a mean magnetic passage area S2 of the yoke 11. The area ratio S1/S2 is set within a range in the vicinity of, for instance 30 to 45% of values which include a value indicating a maximum value Fmax of attraction holding force of the yoke 11 with respect to the armature 5, when the electromagnet 10 is magnetized.
