PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject herbicide having high herbicidal effects on annual weeds growing in turf, inhibiting the rearing of the turf and deteriorating the quality of the turf with slight phytotoxicity to the turf and having a long duration of proper timing for application by including a specific urea derivative as an active ingredient. SOLUTION: This herbicide comprises a 3-phenyl-1,1-dimethylurea derivative, preferably a derivative represented by the formula (R is H, a lower alkyl or an alkoxy; X is a halogen, H, a lower alkyl or an alkoxy; (n) is 0, 1, 2 or 3) as an active ingredient. Furthermore, the derivative is preferably 3-(4- isopropylphenyl)-1,1-dimethylurea or 3-(3-chloro-p-tolyl)-1,1-dimethylurea, and soil before the emergence or germination of turf is preferably treated therewith.
