摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce decahydronaphthalene dimethanol in high yield by reacting decahydronaphthalenedicarboxylic acid dialkyl ester with hydrogen in a solvent in the presence of a copper-chromium catalyst at a specific temperature. SOLUTION: The objective compound is produced by reacting (A) a decahydronaphthalene-2,6-dicarboxylic acid dialkyl ester of formula (R1 and R2 are each a <=10C alkyl) with (B) hydrogen in the presence of (C) a copper- chromium catalyst, e.g. an Adkins-type copper-chromium catalyst composed mainly of copper chromite in a solvent (e.g. cyclohexane, ethyl acetate or dimethoxyethane) at 200-280 deg.C preferably under a hydrogen pressure of 5-20 MPa. The hydrogenation can be carried out by conventional methods such as a suspension bed process to suspend the hydrogenation catalyst in a solvent and a fixed bed process to fix the hydrogenation catalyst and flowing a solution on the catalyst bed. Preferably, the weight ratio of the component C to the component A is (1-200):100 and the amount of the component B is >=4 mol based on 1 mol of the component C.
