PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To discharge a gas remaining in an ink tank connected to a recording head by a simple mechanism. SOLUTION: A recording head 1 for discharging ink from a nozzle 6 thereby recording to a recording medium, and a sub tank 2 connected to the recording head 1 are loaded to a carriage 3. The sub tank 2 is connected to a main tank 4 via a feed tube 5. An excess gas remaining inside the sub tank 2 is discharged outside by a tube pump 50b from a gas discharge opening 108 set to an upper part of the sub tank 2 through a gas discharge tube 10, a joint member 11 and a main gas discharge tube 12. A float 9 is set inside the sub tank 2. The excess gas in the sub tank 2 is discharged, whereby an ink level is raised and the float 9 shuts the discharge opening 108. A discharge operation for the excess gas by the tube pump 50b is finished at this time. |
