PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inhibit vibration of an inner tube to prevent the generation of hammering noise and fracture in a double tubular structure, comprising a catalyst support in a metal case and having an inner pipe in the metal case at least at one of the front and rear sides of the catalyst support, by interposing a cushioning material between the metal case and the inner tube. SOLUTION: In a catalytic converter, capable of accommodating a catalyst support 3 in a cylindrical part 2 of a metal case 1 via a supporting holding member 4, tapered cone parts 5, 6 are integrally formed on the front and rear ends of the cylindrical part 2. In this case, a metallic cone-shaped inner pipe 11 is mounted in the front cone part 5 with a prescribed clearance 10 with respect to the front cone part 5, so that a double structure of the inner and outer pipes is formed on the upstream of the catalyst support 3. The cushioning materials 14, 15 knitted from a metallic thin wire made of stainless steel and the like is interposed between the front cone part 5 and the inner pipe 11 in the metal case 1, whereby the vibration of the inner tube 11 caused by the vibration of an engine and the pulsation of the exhaust gas can be inhibited, and the generation of hammering noise can be prevented.
