PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten a distance and a time from the start of the deceleration to the stop of a workbench vehicle and to improve the working efficiency of the workbench vehicle, by controlling the deceleration and applying the mechanical braking force in the stop of the workbench vehicle. SOLUTION: When a travelling workbench vehicle V is to be stopped, the frequency to be supplied to a motor controlled by an inverter, is continuously or gradually reduced to reduce a speed of rotation of the motor, whereby the travelling speed of the workbench vehicle V is decelerated. Simultaneously in a mechanical braking device B installed on the workbench vehicle V, a cylinder b6 is actuated to retract a piston rod b16, and a lower rail 8 is held by a brake shoe b5 mounted on a suspension frame b4 and a brake shoe b13 mounted on a suspension frame b12, whereby the mechanical braking force is applied to the travelling workbench vehicle V.
