PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a compact outboard motor by covering the surroundings of an engine with an engine cover separable into upper and lower parts and arranging an oil filter provided in the engine on a lower side than a separating face of the engine cover. SOLUTION: In an outboard motor 1 in which the surroundings of an engine 3 are covered with an engine cover 7 separable into upper and lower parts, an oil filter 22 provided in the engine 3 is arranged on a lower side than a separating face 23 of the engine cover to realize the compact outboard motor 1 and improve the layout property of engine equipment. Moreover, a lower cover 18 covering the oil filter 22 among the separated engine covers 7 is constituted in such a way that it can be separated in the horizontal direction of the outboard motor 1, and the oil filter 22 is arranged on the same face as the separating face to improve the maintenance property of the oil filter 22.
