A subscriber terminal (20), for connecting a device (28,32) of a user to a telephony network, includes at least two ports (22,24) associated with a single subscriber line of the telephony network, each port for communication at a different rate. The rate of communication, and hence the bandwidth allocated to the user by a wireless network, is determined by which port is chosen explicitly by the user for connection to the device. The subscriber terminal includes a mechanism for identifying which port has been chosen by the user and for connecting the chosen port to the telecommunication network at appropriate bandwidth. |
