PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pretensioner capable of being constructed in the whole device. SOLUTION: A pretensioner of rack-and-pinion type is installed outside a second leg plate 18 of a webbing takeup device 10. A driving mechanism of this pretensioner is configured as major portion from a pinion 102 and piston 116 formed as a rack bar. The pinion 102 is composed of a cogged part 104 and a clutch part 106 and coupled directly with a takeup shaft. Accordingly the whole construction of pretensioner can be made in a small size in the radial and the axial direction, compared with the conventional arrangement which uses an intermediate gear. |
