The method involves converting information to be transmitted into digital data using source coding in a transmitter. The converted information is modulated onto a carrier signal and embedded into a frame structure and transmitted to a receiver. The information is transmitted in compressed form in certain frames (3) of the frame structure. The information, which is transmitted in compressed form in certain frames is compressed by reducing the source code rate used for the source coding. Preferably, the source code rate is adjusted individually for each frame in the transmitter.
