A single-pipe cylindrical reformer comprising a cylindrical inner tube (68), a group of cylindrical intermediate tubes (60), a cylindrical radiating tube (14), a burner (18) and a steam generator (34), all provided inside a cylindrical outer tube (10), wherein axial ends of the outer and inner tubes opposite to a burner fixing position have double-bottom structures, and tubular passages are formed in layers between the inner tube, the group of intermediate tubes and the outer tubes so as to serve respectively as a reforming catalyst layer (13), a CO modification catalyst layer (11) and/or CO selection oxidizing catalyst layer (12), a cooling fluid passage (48) for introducing a reforming material gas and water, and an air passage (42). During the operation of the reformer, if an internal temperature is up to a preset temperature, a saturated or superheated steam is supplied from the steam generator (34), and, if it exceeds the preset temperature, a moist ste am is supplied. Since the reformer is small in size, quick in starting, and hig h in operating efficiency, and can produce a reformed gas of low CO concentration, it is optimal for a combination with a solid polymer fuel cel l. |
