A vehicle exhaust gas system comprises a catalytic exhaust gas cleansing unit (1), a gas inlet pipe (2) and an outlet pipe. The cleansing unit has a catalyst (20) surrounded by a mantle (21). An air gap is located between the catalyst and mantle. The inlet pipe has an outer pipe section (5) and an inner pipe section (6). The latter are spaced apart and the outer pipe section is fixed to the housing. The housing reduces conically at the inlet side.
