The fuel system (1) has a fuel tank (2) provided with a compensation volume (6), a lever sensor (10) for a filling level indicator and a venting device (14), containing a fuel vapor filter (20) and valves (17,21) which are closed upon the lever sensor reaching the maximum fuel level, for preventing venting of fuel vapor from the compensation volume.
