The present invention provides arthropod interleukin-2 binding proteins, antibodies raised against such proteins and agonists and antagonists of such proteins. Methods of puryfying such IL-2 binding proteins are also provided. The present invention further provides pharmaceutical compositions containing such proteins, antibodies, agonists or antagonists, as well as the use of such pharmaceutical compositions in protecting animals, including humans, from arthropod infestation and/or the transmission of infectious organisms by arthropods. The therapeutic compositions of the present invention can also be used to modulate the activity of the immune system of animals, including humans.
