NEW EXPRESSION SYSTEMS USING INTRONS

The present invention relates to expression systems for the expression of recombinant DNA in mammalian cells using introns in the expression constructs. According to the present invention intron IV of the human NPY receptor Y1 gene has been found to increase considerably the expression of a number of proteins previously able to be expressed only at very low levels. The present invention provides an expression system of a human NPY receptor gene, comprising e.g. intron IV of the human NPY receptor Y1 gene, or functional variants of the said intron. The invention also comprises of producing proteins at high levels. The invention also relates to a method of screening compounds for NPY agonist or antagonist activity.
