Process for monitoring aerobic environmental biotechnology processes, including laboratory studies, using a flow system comprises introducing microorganisms from the process being monitored into a measuring chamber, calibrating the microorganisms, passing a sample through the chamber and measuring any change in the state of the microorganisms. An Independent claim is also included for apparatus for carrying out the process, consisting of a flow system comprising a measuring chamber or two parallel measuring chambers, a control-analysis unit connected to a display device and pumps and valves.
