PURPOSE: An electrode wire for wire electrical discharge machining is provided to process a wire at a high precision without snapping of a wire in high-speed discharging and to economize in cost required to manufacture an electrode wire. CONSTITUTION: A pure copper plating layer(20b) is coated to 2-5 micrometers in thickness on the outer circumference of a piano wire(20a). A zinc plating layer(20c) is coated to 2-5 micrometers in thickness immediately upon the copper plating layer(20b). Herein, the piano wire(20a) consists of 0.60-0.85% of C, 0.12-0.32% of Si, 0.30-0.90% of Mn, not more than 0.025% of P, not more than 0.025% of S, not more than 0.20% of Cu and residual Fe. The piano wire(20a) has a diameter of 0.08-10.0mm.
